Bog Roy Homestead
Project summary
- Housing & Accommodation
Bog Roy Station was first established in 1891 as one of six leases carved off Otematata Station. In 1919 John Anderson was the first of his family line to farm here. Now four generations on, Gundy and Lisa Anderson farm this unique piece of land on the shores of Lake Benmore.
FarmBuild was charged with the renovations on the homestead in 2024 which was a challenging yet very rewarding job. Over the years, different parts of the home have seen varying works completed; our job was to bring this all together in one renovation.

The exterior of the house was re-clad using 50mm poly and Rockcote render system. This - along with new double glazed windows throughout - not only modernise the homestead but add much needed insulation for those cold Waitaki Valley mornings.
A new front entry porch was added to give the home a definitive entrance, with the same principle applied for the laundry entrance, giving an undercover place to take off work boots and hang up jackets. New kwila decking and steps to the verandah were completed along with a large concrete patio providing the perfect place to sit with views over Lake Benmore.
Inside the homestead most of the ceiling and wall linings were removed to allow for insulation and straightening of the framing. Some window and door lintels were lifted to make the most of the landscape views. New joinery to the kitchen, scullery, pantry and laundry, along with updated bathrooms, really bring this home into the 21st century.
Fresh paint throughout brings it all together and makes this home warm and inviting. New radiators, powered by a diesel boiler, add much valued warmth to the homestead. Couple this with under tile heating and a large fire in the lounge, it really is hard to leave on a cold morning.
Gundy and Lisa were great to work alongside and made this renovation a lot of fun for all involved. It has breathed new life into the heart of the property and means many more generations of Andersons can farm this beautiful, unique piece of dirt known as Bog Roy Station.
