Otematata Reclad Bach
Project summary
- Bach Renovation
“Good for another 50 years” was the thinking behind this bach renovation in Otematata.
An original prefabricated T house, built in the late 50s, and brought to the area during the dam building era for construction accommodation - small renovations and the addition of a large double garage with bedrooms and bathrooms have been made over the years.

The original cement sheet cladding and single glazed windows were removed and replaced with new double glazed windows and corrugate sheet cladding. The use of ply shadow cladding on some areas of the house and garage adds a real point of difference.
New stairs and balustrade link the house to bedrooms atop the garage. And new roof and wall cladding was completed on the lean to providing great wood storage and room for a vehicle undercover.
The interior of the bach was painted throughout and new linings were added to the shower. Gas hot water and a large heat pump in the lounge were also added to ensure comfort during the cold Otematata months.
This house has many stories from yesteryear and more waiting to be written now that new life has been bestowed, ensuring family fun will be had here for generations to come.
