Woolsheds and Covered Yards

West Edge Station

Project summary

  • 5-Stand Woolshed and Covered Yards

Henry Williamson had a vision of what he wanted to achieve in this new multi-purpose facility, and we are pleased to have been able to deliver it. The shearing board consists of five straight stands on a flat board profile. Sheep flow is the main focus in our designs, so the typical FarmBuild layout used in this shed for the lead in and catching pens proved itself again, making loading the shed fast and easy for all involved.

This woolshed complex also has the benefit of the mid bay of the covered yards being the same height as the woolshed roofline, enabling machinery/hay/implement storage in the off season. The extra open bay at the south end adds effective external cover, allowing a dry loading option for wool bales.

Having the ability to hold a sufficient number of dry sheep is always important. Between the covered yards, grating area and under the wool room, West Edge has the capacity to hold around 1700 ewes or 2400 hoggets. The grating area alone holds approximately 350 ewes (or 470 hoggets).

This is an excellent woolshed and again the West Edge team were a pleasure to work with.
